What is the weather like in Redang Island?
  • Situated between 1° and 6°N, the whole of Malaysia has a classic equatorial climate with high temperatures and wet months throughout the year. Temperatures at sea level range from 21ºC to 32ºC, whilst at higher elevations it is much cooler with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C. Annual rainfall varies from 2,000mm to 2,500mm. The east coast tends to have a heavier wet season and is best avoided during the rainy period (Nov-Feb). During these months, many of the beach resorts close and will be re-opening in March.
  • As the earth’s climate changed, the northeast monsoon that affects Redang Island has also been delayed and only begins in December. Hence, September and October are not monsoon months yet, and is still a good time to visit Redang.
What do you suggest I bring to Redang Island?

Since the weather in Malaysia is typically warm, we advise you to bring light clothing, swim wear, sandals, caps or hats, sunscreen lotion which is not harmful to corals

What are the major languages spoken in Malaysia?

Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mandarin, Tamil

Is there wi-fi or internet in Redang Island?
  • Wi-fi is only available at the lobby area. Lack of modern telco infra-structure makes the wi-fi unstable and slow in the whole of Redang Island.
  • We strongly advise guests to purchase local telco’s starter SIM-pack available at the resort reception if you wish for reliable internet surfing.
  • We also have an internet room at the resort lobby area. Charges are RM 10.00 per hour or RM 5.00 for half an hour.
Are there any special guidelines to follow when visitors come to Redang Island?
  • 3 simple rules you should always remember and follow whenever you are in Redang or any other protected marine parks in Malaysia.
  • Keep beaches clean - throw rubbish into rubbish bins, not on the beach or into the sea. Help to clear any litter you come across.
  • Do not damage corals - avoid contact with corals. Don’t touch, kick, kneel, stand or step on corals as this may break them. Snorkelers should not go near corals in shallow water to prevent accidental contact.
  • Don't collect marine life - do not collect any marine life, whether dead or alive, such as seashells, corals, crustaceans and fishes, as souvenirs or collectibles. All marine life, whether dead or alive, play a part in sustaining the health of the coral reef ecosystem. Everything is recycled, nothing is wasted. Dead coral, coral rubble and empty seashells can provide protection and homes for many sea creatures. Don't catch fish or other marine life even if you intend to release them later.
I heard there are friendly monkeys on the island?
  • Yes! There is a species of monkey known as the long-tailed macaque monkeys as they can be aggressive. These monkeys are usually seen in troops at the edge of the forests surrounding the resorts and along trails.
  • Visitors staying in garden view rooms by the edge of the forests should take care not to leave windows or balcony doors open when they leave their rooms, especially when they have food inside.
  • Do not feed or taunt these monkeys. Feeding them breeds boldness, causing them to venture close to resorts and humans in expectation of food, and they become a nuisance, harass people or take away your personal belongings.

Is there a souvenir shop in the island?

Yes, the More More Tea Inn gift shop offers a variety of souvenir items, handicraft, soft toys, apparel, accessories, toiletries, snacks and beverages. It is now one of the most popular attractions and a photography spot, particularly among visitors who have seen the movie. More More Tea Inn was initially designed as a temporary set for the Hong Kong Movie “Summer Holiday” in 1999. The set was unable to withstand the harsh island weather and hence deteriorated rapidly. In 2003, Laguna Redang Island Resort restored the building to its former glory with more robust construction methods and materials.
